This is education, not advice
The information on this website is written for the general reader and does not replace a personal medical consultation. It cannot tell you whether your nasal support is adequate, whether grafting is appropriate for you, or which donor site your anatomy and your circumstances favour.
Outcomes vary and none is guaranteed
No treatment can be guaranteed. Grafted cartilage is living tissue: it may be resorbed, it may change shape over years, and how much of the added support survives is not fully predictable at the time of operation. This is a property of the material rather than a failure of technique.
Scars are permanent
Every operation leaves a scar. A septal harvest leaves none that is visible; an ear or rib harvest leaves a scar at the donor site that matures over a year or more and then remains. No surgeon can promise that a scar will be invisible.
Revision carries added risk
A second operation on a nose that already contains grafted material is a harder operation on tissue with less to work with. Revision does not remove the risks of the first operation; it adds to them, and some problems cannot be fully corrected.
